I am Lian JR Jiun. I use philosophy as a method for interdisciplinary research centered on morality, connecting evolutionary psychiatry, bipolar disorder, linguistics, communication studies, Taiwan’s democratic resilience, and cognitive warfare. My concern is not only how theories are established, but also how they return to lived experience and life in common.

01 — ABOUT
About
I am currently a PhD student at the Graduate Institute of Philosophy, National Taiwan University, and a doctoral-level adjunct teaching assistant. Interdisciplinarity is not an added label but my central method: starting from philosophical questions and centering moral perception and lived experience, I bring together psychiatry, psychology, linguistics, communication studies, and Taiwan studies.
In philosophy of psychiatry, I am especially interested in whether evolutionary explanation can help us rethink mental disorders, and in questions about illness, agency, and self-understanding raised by bipolar disorder.
Another strand extends from moral perception to public life: how people notice what is morally important in a situation, and how judgment can remain resilient amid multi-modal information and cognitive warfare.

02 — RESEARCH
Interdisciplinary Research
I use evolutionary perspectives to examine mental disorders, emotional regulation, and adaptation, and to ask what these explanations mean for clinical classification and treatment.
I study the conceptual foundations, lived forms, and scientific explanations of bipolar disorder, connecting philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychiatry, and ethical questions.
I explore how people perceive morally salient features in concrete situations and how perception, emotion, judgment, and reasons for action relate to one another.
I analyze how multi-modal cognitive warfare shapes public communication and democratic society, with attention to institutional, media, and civic resilience.
